The Silesia S.C. 180 refrigerator model is a compressor device, in which freon is used as the refrigerant. The refrigeration system consists of several components. On the back of the fridge is a container with liquid freon, a condense, in which freon was cooled and turned from a vapour back into a liquid, and a compressor which generated circulation of the refrigerant in the system. Inside the device is an evaporator which lowers the air temperature by receiving heat from products placed in the fridge, thus cooling them.
By the standards of its time, the Silesia refrigerator was modern, large, and reliable in comparison to the small fridges manufactured in Poland. Its design incorporates a large, 170-litre cooling chamber, which houses especially profiled shelves for eggs and two slide-out containers for fruit and vegetables.
