Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of compassion, sits here on a rock in the paradise of Potalaka, a bent leg connoting “royal serenity”. According to the traditional visual vocabulary, she is gazing at the moon reflected in the surface of the water at her feet. Her crown bears an image of the Buddha Amithaba (Chinese Emituofo), to whom Guanyin is assigned in the Buddhist pantheon.
